Why choose this job

House call veterinary practice is a very rewarding way to provide high quality patient care and care for one’s self! Visiting Vet is a house call veterinary service that operates out of Vacaville, CA, from the private home of the founder, Dr. Sybil Murray, a 1983 graduate of U.C. Davis School of Veterinary Medicine and a Certified Hospice and Palliative Care veterinarian. This training allowed her to develop expertise in managing the geriatric patient, or the patient with a terminal illness as well as general care, which provides continuity of care from young to geriatric and dying. She does some in home euthanasia, using the newest techniques in accordance with the AVMA Guidelines for the Euthanasia of Animals. Dr. Murray’s strength and passion are mentoring and collaborating with doctors who work in the practice. She believes treating the patients in the comfort of their familiar environment enables the doctor the best option to asses and serve the patient’s health needs. A pet in their home is less stressed and more likely to show symptoms that won’t appear in the frightening atmosphere of the clinic. A house call practice offers the veterinarian a flexible schedule, ideal for an individual that wants variety in their work and life. Currently the practice is open 3 days a week, MWF, but you can work anytime from one to five days a week. Hours are what you want them to be, but we normally operate from 9 AM to 5 PM . Compensation is $800 per day. Supplies and a veterinary assistant are provided, and the schedule is grouped by location of the clients. We do not perform surgeries or any emergencies, unless you wish to provide urgent care to a particular client. We refer complicated cases to specialty practices in the area such as UC Davis. We use Antech for diagnostic blood work and cytology. We see clients in a variety of locations in the North and East SF Bay Region in an approximate 30 mile radius from Vacaville. Some clients are wealthy, some are not, but all truly love their pets and want to provide the best and least stressful care to them as possible. We frequently text or email clients to provide requested information. We use Vetter software, and are almost paperless. An iPhone and a laptop computer with mobile hotspot will be provided for field work and a vet tech assists in the field as well. COVID-19 precautions: We do some virtual visits with existing clients by zoom, facetime, or phone consultations as needed. Presently appointments can be done outside or in the garage to provide as much moving air as possible. We practice social distancing, and wear masks. Our clients are required to wear a mask. They are informed beforehand of our policy, and a visit is contingent on their abiding by them. We ask if anyone has been afflicted with any type of illness, especially upper respiratory disease and plan our visits accordingly to eliminate/minimize Covid contact. Staff vaccinations are available and mandatory, and staff are required to be Covid safe outside of work
