We are looking for an experienced veterinary technician who can proficiently carry out standard clinical procedures as well as help manage the hospital’s daily workflow. Clinical responsibilities will include but will not be limited to preparing patients for anesthetic procedures by sedating them, collecting blood for pre-anesthetic labs, and placing their IV catheters; monitoring anesthesia during complex anesthetic procedures; performing dental COHATS (scaling, polishing, charting, and performing dental radiographs); assisting with restraint and sample collections during regular medicine appointments; administering vaccine boosters and other regular treatments such as Cytopoint injections during tech appointments. Administrative responsibilities will include but will not be limited to monitoring stock and ordering, daily organization and cleaning, and managing the workflow of assisting staff members. We are a fear-free practice, not officially certified but we fully imbibe the spirit of the principles and live up to them. We do not fight with patients, we do not wrestle them, force them, or punish them, ever! We utilize treats, toys, play time, and happy visits for positive reinforcement and desensitization during every visit. And when necessary, and often, we dispense PVPs (pre-visit pharmaceuticals) such as gabapentin, trazodone, melatonin, acepromazine, alprazolam, and dexmedetomidine (Sileo) to reduce fear and anxiety during appointments as well as administer injectable sedatives when necessary for more invasive procedures in fearful patients such as venipuncture, cystocentesis, wound treatment, radiographs, etc. Interested candidates should preferably have at least 5 years of experience as an RVT/LVT in a high-capacity practice. They must be independent self-starters who do not require constant direction but who can also respect authority, even when they disagree. Candidates must also be highly proficient in verbal and written communication in the English language and be able to confidently communicate with clients in layman’s terms. Must hold a valid California technician’s license.
